Work culture.

Rush49 has a pretty sweet work culture. With a 10:30 start time, super casual dress, free lunches on Fridays–or whenever Kumar gets hungry, a fridge stocked full of Trader Joes’ goodies, and sweet people, we have it made. We’re a lean team, excited by ideas, collaboration and heated discussions. My (Jen D) favorite part about Rush49 is our giant whiteboard; easily the largest piece of “art” we own. It’s the centerpiece of our office, used mostly for brainstorming sessions and jotting down codes or equations. Oddly it was one of the reasons I joined the Rush49 team. It wasn’t so much the whiteboard itself, but rather what it stood for. I figured if a company encouraged bottom-up ideas, and used discussion as a means to address weaknesses, it was a place for me.

So that’s a little about us! We hope you guys keep checking-in as we are going to launch Rush49 in a few weeks, more on that to come!

Best of LA.

The first round of Rush49’s “Best of LA” concluded this week. We featured local businesses, diced them into categories – like the “Best Club in LA – and asked our fans to vote on their favorites. The votes have been tallied, the results are in; but what fun would it be to announce the winners without a few seconds of anticipation building? No fun at all…

Eh-em, Rush49 would like to take this time to thank all of the local business we featured, you guys are our editor’s favorites and we greatly appreciate your participation!

OK,OK, we can sense your impatience.  Without further ado, the fan favorites are:

We Share our Share.

What makes Rush49 special? Two words, WE CARE.

Our staff is comprised of Returned Peace Corps volunteers, former TOMS employees, tree huggers, avid animal rights activists and vegetarians galore. We care about LA and giving back, but as a company we were undecided on HOW to give back, until today. Today we made a promise to support 3 local, non-profits in 2012.

We’re currently running a Rush49 “Best of LA” contest. We are featuring 12 notable, LA based non-profits, asking Rush49 fans to vote on their favorite organizations. The top three winning organizations will be supported for 4 months throughout 2012 by Rush49.

Rush49 will donate 50% of our profit share – on select deals- to the featured non-profit. Bottom line we’re giving back.

We Have a Dream.

On August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King delivered the “I have a Dream” speech, that called for racial equality, the end of discrimination, and the hope of a better tomorrow. MLK envisioned a day in which his “four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”.

Today acts as a reminder of the Civil Rights Movement, and the courage put forth by the American people to accomplish equality in the eyes of the law. It’s a day that inspires us to believe, that we CAN create change through organization and collaboration. We encourage you to perform a random act of kindness today– because with small acts, we can create positive social change.

Rush49 is a place of ethnic diversity. We are a true reflection of America’s “melting pot” reputation. Rush49 has brought together a group of individuals from diverse religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in hopes of building something new, exciting and relevant. At times our opposing viewpoints can create heated brainstorming sessions and discussions, but from these conversations we derive a more distinctive product and brand identity.

Today is a reminder of how far we have come as a nation, and how much we can accomplish together. Below is the MLK, “I have a Dream Speech”. We hope it inspires you, as it did us.

We’re the new kids on the block.

Most of you know about Groupon and Living Social, but what about Rush49?! My guess is probably not…not yet at least.

We’re a Los Angeles based start-up launching our website this month. Your search for what to do, where to eat and where to play in LA just go a whole lot easier.

Rush49 has painstakingly curated the best in the city for you to experience and discover. We’re proud to deliver exclusive deals from the places right to your smartphone and inbox so that your city becomes your adventure whenever you feel like it.

You are probably asking yourself, what makes Rush49 unique?

Well, for one, we love our mobile app. It’s so easy to use and intuitive, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it. Our app learns about you as you use it. That might sound straight out of a George Orwell novel, but bear with us. With the variables of location, purchased deals, personal preferences and interests, your Rush49 mobile companion learns about you, so we can offer deals that are timely, and above all, relevant.

Bottom line, we can offer you something our competitors can’t, deals that are tailored to YOUR preferences!

Rush49 also has a competitive edge when it comes to serving the local businesses we feature.  The expectations from other deal sites is that merchants will offer 50 % discounts on their services, in addition to a 50% revenue split with the daily deal site. We’re talking big losses at the merchants expense. Rush49 is doing things differently and changing up the deals space by creating value for both customers and businesses. We achieve this by halving commission splits and revenue share percentages.

Our generous commission splits stem from the founder, Kumar, who comes from a small business background. Kumar, having launched successful eateries and grocers near USC, learned firsthand how slim the profit margins are for restaurants, and how partnering with a daily deal sight can actually hurt business. Thinking that there must be a better way, Kumar founded Rush49 in hopes of creating just that- great value for customers looking to experience urban adventures in and around LA, and sustainable discount opportunities for businesses looking to expand.
